OfficeMix user modes

Basing on the feedback we gathered from User‐testing and feedback from Cristina, DKCM about language in a professional setting, we boiled the OfficeMix modes down to Focus, Collab and Unwind. In addition is Off mode signifying that the Dial has been turned off or the User is off work.

Focus mode

Focus mode lets users customise or pause their notifications and de-lists them from Office-Mix's online matching server. A typical use‐case scenario would be:

  • Setting OfficeMix to Focus mode and customising the notifications a User would like to receive.
  • Synchronisation with third-party applications to let other Users on those platforms know a User has switched to Focus mode.
  • Having a time counter to let a User know about the time spent in focus mode.

Collab mode

Collab mode (Collaboration) lets users notify work colleagues that they are open for collaboration on various various tasks and/or getting help when needed. A typical use‐case scenario would be:

  • Setting OfficeMix to Collab mode and searching for a task a User would like to engage in.
  • Adding the task a User has added as Post to the Team page for others to interact with it.
  • Getting matched with work colleagues in the same Collab OfficeMix work mode.
  • Navigating to a set meet‐up location.
  • A Chat feature to allow for instant messaging or calls between collaborators.
Unwind mode

Unwind mode helps initiate interactions and connections by letting the User's work colleagues know that they are ready to unwind from the day's tasks for example by grabbing a coffee, getting lunch or any other casual task. A typical use‐case scenario would be:

  • Getting matched with work colleages in the same Unwind OfficeMix work mode.
  • A Chat feature to allow for instant messaging or calls between individuals or as a group.
  • Suggesting or allowing setting to a meet‐up location and navigation to it.
  • Time limites to allow limitation of Users from staying too long in Unwind mode.

User‐testing

We held and sub‐divided User‐testing into three groups; executive, employee and student.

Executive

Company executive, Hardware technology company with a people head count of 8000. Here is a snippet of the outcomes:

  • Not necessary want to know everyone's working status.
  • Concerned that he would miss urgent emails when in Focus mode.
  • Office-Mix is a prospective tool in need of further refinement and definition.
Employee

Here is a snippet of the feedback from an employee working in Design, Marketing and Animation departments for a Design studio:

  • The skill search would be extremelly helpful.
  • Would use the established communication method within the company.
  • The matching feature would be great for company leisure activities.
  • I think upon its first use I might forget to use it.
  • Love that the dial links all across devices.
Student

Here is a snippet of the feedback from a UAL student and former employee:

  • Felt it was better for new employees and introverts.
  • We needed more initiative to encourage people to use the product.

Video clean‐up

We revisited the previous video Marty had put together, planned and had reshoots for some of the scenes that had dirt marks on the screen. In addition to the introduction sequence, I put together an alternative version to allow for variety.

Iterations for v1.0

Here are the changes we made after taking into consideration feedback from user testing:

Changing the 3 Csto Unwind

Officially changed and transitioned the Casual, Chill or Coffee modes to Unwind mode.

Mobile Application

The user could now customise OfficeMix to allow priority notifications in each of the work modes. In addition we changed the colour for Collab mode from a maroon or pinkish colour to orange.

Desktop App

Added a the shortcut desktop app and a corresponding screen as soon as they turn the dial.

Considerations for v2

Here are the changes we planned to make as future considerations from the User‐testing feedback:

  • Optimising the experience for remote work.
  • Making a management version.
  • Thinking about where OfficeMix fits in outside of office or work.
  • Implement more incentives for Users.

Final outcomes

After seven long weeks of amazing interactions, experimentations and hurdles, here are the outcomes for and from the final presentation day.

Feedback from the presentations

Here is a summary of the feedback from the final day of presentation:

  • Thinking harder about the place where the conversation starts from and how we can build those connections further.
  • Thinking about the other forms the dial could take and where it actually lives in people's daily lives.
  • Allowing for flexibility between work modes people in real life don't really go by three work modes.

Overall, we had positive feedback some of which noted commanding a strong presence during presentation and keeping the audience engaged with us.
